Visitors include the 96ft two-masted topsail schooner Johanna Lucretia, built in Belgium in 1945 and being sailed over from Northern Ireland.

Rare outing for the Tamar sailing barge Shamrock, usually resident at the National Trust’s Cotehele Estate.

Replica Cornish lugger Spirit of Mystery, as sailed by Pete Goss in last-year’s re-enactment of an 11,800 mile journey from Cornwall to Australia.

All boats will be in Sutton Harbour throughout Saturday and Sunday. Parade of Sail on Monday.

Shoreside boatshow on Saturday and Sunday, with 40 stalls including marine suppliers, marine artists, traditional crafts and marine booksellers, along with the RNLI and Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen.

Live music throughout the weekend, and a range of shoreside displays.

Join us for a nocturnal adventure and let our colonies of bats be your guide. With rare species calling Mount Edgcumbe home, you could be in for a real treat with this expedition. Meeting on the terrace at the front of the house at 8pm, the walk will take approximately two to three hours and finish off with hot soup and cost £5 per person. Please make sure that you wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear for the walk. Due to limited spaces, booking is essential.

Enjoy a family adventure with our experienced rangers learning all about the great outdoors. Learn how to build a shelter, light a fire without matches and even forage for food!

All children must be accompanied by an adult with no more than two children per adult. Tickets are 1 adult + 1 child – £10, 1 adult + 2 children – £13, 2 adults + 1 child £17. Meet at the Penlee Battery car park at 10am wearing suitable clothing and footwear, you should bring a packed lunch and drink with you. The day will run until 3pm. Guided walk with archaeologist and steward, James at 1.30pm from the terrace in front of the House. Learn about the history of some of our recently restored buildings and look at some fascinating recent studies of the 18th century English Garden House. The excursion will take approximately 1.5 hours and costs £5 per person. Spaces are limited so please book early.

Forest Friends is an alternative to a traditional childcare facility and uses the Forest School ethos and principles to deliver a fun packed, practical woodland activity.

The sessions aim to teach children about nature through playing wild woodland games, exploration, wild food foraging, making dens and shelters, learning basic bush craft skills and camp fire cooking!

Forest Friends is run independently of Mount Edgcumbe Park by fully qualified and insured Forest School leaders. All leaders hold current CRB and first aid certificates.

The cost is £15 per child or £25 for two siblings. Children will need a packed lunch, drink, warm waterproof clothing, and stout shoes or wellingtons as the sessions will run come rain or shine.

Enjoy a fun day exploring the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe. Be transported back to the time of early explorers with only a map, landmarks and our clue sheet to guide you!

Explorer packs cost £5 each and can be collected on the day. Collect your explorer pack from the Cremyll Lodge Shop just inside the Cremyll gate from 10.30am, and remember to wear comfy footwear and layers.

Over 2000 kinds of moth inhabit the British Isles, most of which you’ll only seen if you go trapping at night. Come and join our experts at this night time event and see what moths they can trap and identify, you never know we may find some rarities!

Meet at the park gates at Cremyll at 7.45pm, the event should last around three hours and tea and biscuits will be provided. Suitable shoes should be worn and bring some warm clothing, it can get chilly during the night. The cost is £3 per person, tickets should be pre-booked.

Dear Sir/Madam/Automated  telephone answering service,
Having spent the past twenty  minutes waiting for Coleman police
station to pick up a  telephone I have decided to abandon the idea and
try e-mailing  you instead.

Perhaps you would be so kind as to pass this  message on to your
colleagues in Bodmin, by means of smoke  signal, carrier pigeon or
Ouija board.

As I’m writing  this e-mail there are eleven failed medical experiments
(I think  you call them youths) in St Mary’s Crescent, which is just
Off  St Mary’s Road in Bodmin.

Six of them seem happy enough  to play a game which involves kicking a
football against an iron  gate with the force of a meteorite. This
causes an earth  shattering CLANG! Which rings throughout the entire
building.
This game is now in its third week and as I am  unsure how the scoring
system works, I have no idea if it will  end any time soon.

The remaining five failed-abortions  are happily rummaging through
several bags of rubbish and items  of furniture that someone has so
thoughtfully dumped beside the  wheelie bins. One of them has found a
saw and is setting about a  discarded chair like a beaver on ecstasy
pills.

I fear  that it’s only a matter of time before they turn their limited
attention to the caravan gas bottle that is lying on its side  between
the two bins.
If they could be relied on to only blow  their own arms and legs off
then I would happily leave them to  it. I would even go so far as to
lend them the  matches.

Unfortunately they are far more likely to blow  up half the street with
them and I’ve just finished decorating  the kitchen.

What I suggest is this – after replying to  this e-mai l with worthless
assurances that the matter is being  looked into and will be dealt
with, why not leave it until the  one night of the year (probably bath
night) when there are no  mutants around then drive up the street in a
Panda car before  doing a three point turn and disappearing again. This
will of  course serve no other purpose than to remind us what policemen
actually look like.

I trust that when I take a claw  hammer to the skull of one of these
throwbacks you’ll do me the  same courtesy of giving me a four month
head start before coming  to arrest me.

16 hours and 38  minutes must be a personal record for Bodmin Police

McWhirter for inclusion in his next Guinness  book.

Secondly I was delighted to hear that our street  has its own Community
Beat Officer.

May I be the first to  congratulate you on your covert skills? In the
five or so years  I have lived in St Mary’s Crescent , I have never
seen you. Do  you hide up a tree or have you gone deep undercover and
infiltrated the gang itself? Are you the one with the acne and  the
moustache on his forehead or the one with a chin like a wash  hand
basin? It’s surely only a matter of time before you are  head-hunted by
MI5 to look for Osama..

Whilst I realise  that there may be far more serious crimes taking
place in  Bodmin, such as smoking in a public place or being Christian
without due care and attention, is it too much to ask for a  policeman
to explain (using words of no more than two syllables  at a time) to
these twats that they might want to play their  strange football game
elsewhere.

The pitch on Fairpark  Road , or the one at Priory Park are both within
spitting  distance as is the bottom of the Par Dock, the latter being
the  preferred option especially if the tide is in.

The course is clockwise around all of Great Britain & Ireland, and there are compulsory stops of 48 hours at Kinsale, Barra, Lerwick and Lowestoft where the hospitality is legendary.
It is always a terrific test of endurance and seamanship, and not for the faint hearted.
