Multiple love stories intertwine with farce and gripping drama – this is a comedy romance with a very dark heart. As Bassanio sets out on his quest to win the love of beautiful heiress Portia, he leaves behind a mass of problems in Venice: a debt with a terrible proviso, a dangerous elopement and a city in financial turmoil. When the crisis finally comes, whose side are you on? Who is it that you really love?
