Britain’s best loved rockers, Status Quo, will undertake a 28 date tour of the Uk this winter which includes a return visit to Plymouth Pavilions on Sunday November 21st.

Francis Rossi said: “We cannot wait for th UK winter dates. We’ve been halfway round the world in 2010, so it will be great to get out on stage in front of our unbelieveable crowds.”

“Playing in the UK is so special to us” Added Rick Parfitt, ” It doesn’t matter how many thousands of miles we’ve done on this bus, by the time the tour starts in Southend we’ll be ready to rock you in Plymouth – See you there!”

Plymouth Half Marathon

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May.
Due to increased participant members, this years events is being held over 2 days. On Saturday the 29th May the event is under the banner of “Athletics on the Prom”. This will indicate the Schools Challenge and Fun Run. On the Sunday we will concentrate on the Plymouth Half Marathon, which this year will attract 6,000 entrants.
The program is a s follows:
Athletics on the Prom     12:00 – 14:30
Schools Challenge        15:00
Fun Run             15:30
Sunday Program
Plymouth Half Marathon     Start at 09:00
Other entertainment        09:00 – 15:00

World Cup Football – Fixtures

The World Cup kicks off on Friday 11th June at 4pm (SA time). The first game is between South Africa and Mexico and the venue is the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg. England have their first game on Saturday 12th June, they play the USA, kick off is 8:30pm and the venue is the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg.

Ranked among the favourites, England will aim to assert their status in Group C, where they face an intriguing trip down memory lane with USA.

Respect Festival – October 2010

The Respect Festival returns again for 2010, bringing with it it’s trademark vibrancy and colour.

Plymouth Respect Festival is an annual celebration of Plymouth’s multi-culture, fusing colours, music, vibrancy, performance, arts an information.

It is one of the largest festivals of it’s kind within the UK and is expected to pull in over 20,000 visitors over the weekend. Join the activities on the Piazza from the 29 October to 1 November to see what Plymouth has to offer!

The British Firework Championships – August 2010

Tuesday 10 to Wednesday 11 August

 

The most anticipated event in the city’s annual events calendar will see thousands of spectators heading up to the Hoe for two evenings of entertainment culminating in spectacular fireworks displays from six companies seeking the coveted title of British Firework Champions.

Representing the very best of the UK pyrotechnics industry, the six competitors promise to provide an amazing series of displays when they compete on Mountbatten breakwater to win the accolade of being the UK’s number one display company.

The event can be viewed from Plymouth Hoe with entertainment starting from 6.30pm courtesy of Heart, Plymouth’s local radio station, as well as fairground rides and refreshment stalls. The first firework displays will start at around 9.30pm each evening as dusk arrives.

Our second and final screening from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden brings this romantic tragedy to Plymouth City Centre. See Placido Domingo in the leading role of one of Verdi’s lesser known opera’s.

Seating and catering will be provided in the Piazza but please make sure to arrive early in order to get a seat.

British Grand Prix Weekend – July 2010

Enjoy a weekend of motor sports on 10 and 11 July as the Piazza is transformed into a haven of engines, fuel and racing. Watch the trials on the big screen on 10 July whilst surrounded by vintage cars from the Devon Vintage Car Club. Admire the many vintage cars on display throughout the day on 10 July before the Grand Prix itself is screened on Sunday 11 July. Why not take a break from shopping and enjoy the race in the safe, family-friendly city centre.
