Plymouth Marinas near the Guest House

The Athenaeum Lodge Guest House, Plymouth, Devon is within walking distance of all these marinas, although yacht Haven Marina requires a short ferry trip from the Barbican or that you are a very good swimmer!! So, you've had a hard days sailing and need a nice place to stay. No better place than to stay her at our B&B.

The Shipping Forecast is on Radio 4 at 0048, 0520, 1201 and 1754 (local time). All broadcasts are on LW on 1515m (198 kHz) and some transmissions are on VHF. It gives a summary of gale warnings in force, a general synopsis and area forecasts for specified sea areas around the UK. The radio bulletin also includes the coastal weather reports (0048 and 0536 only).

Plymouth Yacht Haven Marina - N 50° 21' W 04° 07'

Situated at the mouth of the river Plym, Plymouth Yacht Haven offers good protection for sailing boats and other craft from the prevailing winds and is within close proximity of Plymouth Sound. This 450 berth marina can accommodate vessels up to 45m in length and 7m draught. Members of staff are on site 24hrs a day to welcome you as a visitor and to serve diesel. 2008 sees the opening of a brand new bar and restaurant offering fine dining, spectacular views and a fantastic atmosphere at the heart of the marina. Within easy access are several coastal walks, a golf course, and health centre with heated swimming pool. The city of Plymouth and historic Barbican are just a short water-taxi ride away. With a 65ton travel hoist, undercover storage, and extensive range of marine services onsite, Plymouth Yacht Haven has the perfect yard for any maintenance required.

Queen Anne Battery - N 50° 21' W 04° 07'

Plymouth is well known as a City of the Sea and has played a major role in seafaring voyages around the world. Queen Anne's Battery (QAB) is therefore a popular marina with long-term berth holders and many visitors during the summer months. Offering outstanding facilities for sailing craft and motor cruisers alike, it has 235 permanent berths for boats up to 18 metres and a visitors' area with alongside pontoon berthing.

Besides a chandlery, brokerage and yacht charter, there is a provisions shop selling essential items as well as a café, bar and restaurant. QAB is also home to the Royal Western Yacht Club and many international short-handed yacht races start and finish here, including the single-handed Transatlantic Sailing Race, the Round Britain Race and the finish of the prestigious Rolex Fastnet Race.

Situated in the centre of Plymouth, the marina provides an ideal departure point for those heading across to Brittany or further afield, and there is extensive cruising around Plymouth Sound.

Further west there's plenty to explore in the rivers Fal and Fowey along the rugged Cornish coast. Heading east towards Devon, visit Dartmouth, Torquay and the pretty fishing village of Brixham. The Channel Islands are a popular weekend destination for berth holders from QAB
